Curriculum Statement

At Romiley Primary School, we are dedicated to ensuring that each child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our curriculum is one that ensures all children are given a broad range of enriching experiences and are well-prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils understand the importance of democracy and tolerance for others, positive relationships are encouraged and modelled. We are keen to ensure our curriculum provides children with both knowledge and skills.
Our curriculum is ambitious, systematic and progressive which goes beyond the minimum expectations of the national curriculum, with an emphasis on it being rich, broad and balanced. Subject leaders and teachers plan lessons to ensure they are well sequenced and build on prior learning. We want all our children to know more, remember more and in turn be able to do more.
Children in Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and the National Curriculum is followed throughout the rest of the school. This includes English, Maths, Science, ICT, RE, Geography, History, Art, Design Technology, Music, PSHE, a Modern Foreign Language, (French), and PE.
- Early Years Foundation Stage (ages 3—5 years) — this enables a secure and firm foundation for future learning
- Key Stage 1 (ages 5 –7 years)
- Key Stage 2 (ages 7—11 years)
Teachers send a ‘Termly Letter’ to parents/carers at the start of each term giving an overview of the curriculum for that term; this includes any trips, visits, visitors and topics.
